WANT TO VOTE BY MAIL?
There will be a special election Tuesday, May 3, 20ll, to seek voter approval
to form a Conifer recreation district. The district would cover l02 square miles along the 285 Corridor. The district’s
organizers will not seek to raise property taxes in this election, but state they do intend “to follow” this election
with a future tax increase election (see the District’s September 20l0 Service Plan---its foundational governance document).
The district would have the power to hold an election in any year to raise taxes.
The eligible voters in this election are: (l)
All individuals who own property included
within the district’s
boundaries---this includes people who own area property but who live in another state, or in another part of Colorado; and
(2) Any individual over eighteen who is a registered Colorado voter and whose permanent
address (over 30 days) is within district boundaries---this includes people who do not own property but live in the area.
This
will be only a polling place election---(the polling place is West Jeff Elementary) mail-in ballots
will not be automatically sent to all voters. However, you are entitled to vote by mail-in ballot, if you so choose.
If you wish to vote by mail, here is the process:
l. Contact
Sue Blair, the Designated Election Official (DEO) for the election. The DEO sends out mail-in ballots. The DEO can
be contacted at Community Resource Services (a private firm overseeing the election) by phone (303-38l-4960), by fax (303-38l-496l),
by E-mail (sblair@crsofcolorado.com), or by street address: Community Resource Services, 3855 Lewiston Street, Suite l40, Aurora, CO 800ll.
2. Tell
the DEO the name(s) of those who want a mail-in ballot (include full name and permanent address for each person).
The DEO will send an absentee ballot application to each individual. The application form(s) must be filled out and returned
to the DEO. The DEO will process each application, check to insure the individual is an eligible voter, and then send the
actual mail-in ballot to the voter(s).
3. All application forms must be filed with
the DEO no later than Tuesday, April 26, 20ll, in order to receive an actual mail-in ballot prior to the Tuesday, May 3, 20ll
election. (The sooner the application process is begun, however, the more assurance you have of receiving the actual mail-in
ballot in time to vote.)
The DEO (Sue
Blair) should be able to answer any other questions you have as to who are eligible voters, whether your property is in the
proposed district, and how to vote by mail.
